Currently, we are caring for five highly functioning young men whose dream is to live independently but with supervision. They are able to do certain things on their own such as riding public transportation to and from their work but we drive them to their activities. They are active in the community, have different jobs, involve in different sports such as Special Olympics, and participate in different social activities such as drama, choir, and dance.
Our goal is to help them live independently to a certain degree by teaching them different tasks, helping them develop certain hobbies, and creating a family-like environment for them. We also provide different activities for them at home such as movie night, game night or even just walk in the park. We also take them to movies, go out to dinner with friends, hang out at the mall or do day trips. We encourage them to get involve in the community by volunteering with different organizations as much as possible. We provide home-cooked meals for them every day and love listening to them talking and sharing about their day. Our residents are the extension of our family and therefore we treat them like our own. Their family lives within just minutes from us and are also very much involve in their kid’s life. Working with the parents as well as the case manager and job coaches, we are able to give these young individuals the support and stability they need in order to live a normal life.
